Exchange Enhancer!

Hey friends!

Have you ever been in a conversation with someone that obtains quite a comprehensive vocabulary where you suddenly feel comparatively vapid with your inferior lexicon? Me too. In fact, that entire last sentence was just me searching up synonyms for specific words on the old Google machine. So, to save you the trouble, I have compiled a groovy list of 15 words that can work to improve you vocabulary to inevitable ameliorate your conversation skillz. You is welcome.

Amalgamation
The definition: the action, process, or result of combining or uniting.
In a sentence: James Reynolds is the amalgamation of two of the hottest people ever (Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, ya feel?)

Superfluous
The definition: unnecessary, especially through being more than enough.
In a sentence: Miss, I'd hate to be rude, but your constant niggling about my makeup is superfluous.

Juxtapose
The definition: place or deal with close together for contrasting effect.
In a sentence: The quality of the Rimmel Stay Matte powder is undermined when juxtaposed with the MAC Studio Fix powder.

Seldom:
The definition: not often; rarely.
In a sentence: I seldom go to the clubs, but when I do I tear up the d-floor.

Discombobulated:
The definition: to disconcert or confused someone.
In a sentence: I was left discombobulated when the weird dude on the train kept staring at me.

Dexterous
The definition: showing or having skill, especially with the hands.
In a sentence: Harry Styles is quite a dexterous musician, isn't he?

Quintessential
The definition: representing the most perfect or typical example of a quality or class.
In a sentence: Gary is the quintessential Australian teenager.

Soliloquy
The definition: an act of speaking one's thoughts aloud when by oneself or regardless of any hearers, especially by a character in a play.
In a sentence: Juliet's soliloquy in the play Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous of all time.

Habitual
The definition: done constantly or as a habit.
In a sentence: I can't help that I bite my nails, it's habitual.

Paradox
The definition: a seemingly absurd or contradictory statement or proposition which when investigated may prove to be well founded or true.
In a sentence: In a strange paradox, Chloe's medicine made her sick before it made her better.

Quixotic
The definition: extremely idealistic; unrealistic and impractical.
In a sentence: Some directioners have the quixotic idea that Zayn is going to re-join One Direction.

Transpired
The definition: (of a secret or something unknown) come to be known; be revealed.
In a sentence: On Saturday it was transpired that Sweden won this years Eurovision Song Contest

Retrospective
The definition: looking
back on or dealing with past events or situations.

In a sentence: In retrospect, kissing my friend's boyfriend was not a good idea.

 

Abhorrent:

The definition: inspiring disgust and loathing; repugnant.

In a sentence: the level of sexism in society today is absolutely abhorrent.

 

Pragmatic:

The definition: dealing with things sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations.

In a sentence: the boys were not thinking very pragmatically when making plans for the weekend.

 

So, there we have it! That is my list of 15 words that will help you when making conversation with someone of a high intellect. Their duty is not to make you sound pompous but to spice up your life just a tad. Chuck them in a sentence here or there and you'll be cruising.
