Annoying Teachers

Hey friends!

I finished up school for the semester on friday and with my new found freedom I've realised how annoying some teachers can be. So, here's a lil post pointing out the annoying things that some of my teachers do, and that yours probably do too. Hashtag soo0o relatable.

Constantly niggle you about makeup.

I get this so frequently it's not funny. My report even said "Ashlee needs to realise that as a role model for the younger students, she must abide by the uniform policy in regards to wearing makeup to school". Seriously?! I know, for myself, that if I didn't think I needed to wear makeup to school, I 100% would not. I waste about 15 minutes every morning doing my makeup, that's an extra 15 minutes I could be spending asleep, plus, makeup costs good money so why would I waste it on going to school? Teachers need to understand that girls have insecurities about the way that they look and if they want to cover up their spots and acne, they will.

Nitpick about general uniform.

Look, I wasn't aware that the length of my socks was affecting my education, but I am deeply, deeply apologetic about this confusion. I'm sure every school has that one thing that people do that the teachers hate with regards to uniform. At mine it's wearing short socks with the winter uniform. Our teachers seem to be under the impression that if a student is seen wearing short socks with their uniform, a prospective parent will no longer wish to send their child to the school because apparently the incorrect wearing of socks is an abomination. I'm sorry but what? I'm sure every student would be passing their subjects with flying colours if our educators spend a little less time worrying about piercings, makeup, collars and socks and more time on actually doing their job and teaching the content.

Their moods change in a split second.

I'm not even kidding, I have witnessed one of my teachers go from laughing and eating pizza in class to cracking the poo poos within 0.0000000001 seconds. Aside from being scary as heck, it was annoying. It amazes me how quickly they can go from having a joke around to losing their cool. It's frustrating because you don't know how to act, sometimes you might even, initially, think it's a joke, then they get even more mad. Excuse me sir, I came to school today to learn, not deal with your mood swings so please refrain from invading my environment with your negative attitude, that'd be great, thank you so much.

WHEN THEY DON'T GIVE YOU A MARK EVEN WHEN YOU DESERVE IT.

This is in capitals because I'm still mad about my legal studies exam result. Have any of you ever been in a situation where you need one mark to take you from a B+ to an A so you go to your teacher to try and persuade them to give you that one mark and they turn around and say to you "look, I could give you a mark for that, but I'm not doing to". PARDON ME?! This isn't some game where you can choose whether or not to give a student a mark based on whether you want to or not, this is shiz that affects our future, you could ease up a bit, you know?

Give you revision that's not on the exam.

If I don't need to know it, why would I need to learn it? Oh, that's right, I wouldn't. Don't give me a 300 page booklet of revision notes if I only need about 10 pages of it. The same goes for when they put questions on an exam that they know wasn't in the revision. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? I'm starting to think that some teachers actually want their students to fail.

There is always that one student that the love/hate.

Without a doubt, there will always be that one student who sucks up to their teachers and as much as people say they hate suck ups, teachers absolutely thrive off it. There's also the student that they absolutely hate. This person doesn't even necessarily have to do anything to make their teacher dislike them majority of the time. It's almost as if on their first day of teaching a class they scan the room and pick two people, one who they are going to hate, and one who they are going to love. I'm usually the kid that they hate, or the one that they don't really notice. I have this one teacher at my school that has hated me for 3 years because I failed her class due to the fact that she didn't appreciate the way I presented my work. Soz not soz.

So there we have it! Those are some of the annoying things that teachers do! Let me know in the comments if any of your teachers do the same things or any other annoying things that they do!

Thursbae 18/06/2015

Hey friends!

It's Thursday and that means two things. 1. It's almost the weekend, and 2. I'm back with a new Thursbae!

I'm very excited to inform you that the bae o' the day this time around is Halsey!

Source: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B0_iul5IUAIMLgj.jpg

She's so hot??????

Okay so this weeks Thursbae is a little different to my traditional picks because, well, she's not a dude. However, I believe rules are made to be broken and there's nothing wrong with having a bit of variety so as of today I'm gonna be keeping it real by throwing in a few girl crushes every now and then.

Without further digression, let's get into it. Here's what you need to know about Halsey:

Name: Ashley Nicolette Frangipane
Nationality: American
Birthdate: September 29, 1994
Occupation: Singer/songwriter
Known for: Being friggen awesome... and singin' some rad tunes.

If you're questioning why I've been mclovin' Halsey recently, allow me to educate you.

1. Her voice.

Source: https://secure.static.tumblr.com/6c8fb1c594ec2d429deb1b13eeedc0c1/re1iwwy/lGwnin6u1/tumblr_static_tumblr_static_7arijc2894sgsc808k8kw0cg0_640.jpg

It's incredible. It's so different to anything I've heard lately and I love it so much. It's so hypnotic and cool and makes me wish I could sing just like her. And if you thought the studio versions of her songs are brilliant, wait until you hear her live. There's something about the way she sings that entices you and keeps you wanting more. I'm praying to the good lord above that Halsey decides to take a trip down under so I can hear it in person.

2. Her songs.

Not going to lie, I was a bit (6 months, lol) late on the Halsey bandwagon and only discovered Room 93 probably 2 weeks ago, however, just those 5 songs are some of the greatest tracks I've heard all year. They contain genuinely good lyrics that deal with real issues in the world paired with simplistic and experimental backing tracks to create this chilled out, yet euphoric vibe. They're the type of songs that you can sit, close your eyes, listen to and get lost in the music. Any music that promotes that kind of environment ticks all my boxes.

3. She gets it.

Source: http://static.tumblr.com/3eca49216fb0144bcb8de91a792345cf/46b1hyc/5wTnn20th/tumblr_static_5l0jtodqbkg8w4ko48swk0gko.jpg

Ashley has the most amazing perceptions of the world and I find that so admirable in a person. She tells it like it is and doesn't sugarcoat anything. I think she's a brilliant "in-between role model" to all young girls, particularly around the ages of 15-20 who may be suffering with a mental illness or moral dilemmas, particularly in regards to feminism. Here's a few examples that I've found just scrolling through her twitter.

And here's a groovy extract from her interview with Elle:
"I just like to be the in-between role model—the one I didn't have growing up. At the same time, if I'm going to be a role model, I would rather kids idolize my intention to do good and my intention to be myself and my intention to be different rather than my actions. I think my intentions are more admirable than my actions."

4. She can literally pull off any hair colour.

She's like the female Michael Clifford. She's gone from blue, to pink, to blonde, to purple, I think there was some silver in there too. It's hard to keep track of really. But somehow she slays the whole colour wheel like a chameleon and I have mad respect for anyone who can pull that off. Also, just while we're talking about the way she looks, can we take a minute to appreciate those cheekbones? Could carve ice.

5. She wrote and performed the Haylor song.

Need I say more?
If you don't know what that means here's a link, go watch it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehnEkmUTqyI

And there we have it! If you would like to follow Halsey's movements you can find her on twitter at @halseymusic and on instagram at @iamhalsey. Her EP, Room 93 is on iTunes now and her debut album, Bandlands, is released in August this year so make sure you check it out.

The Rocky Horror Show Review

Hey Friends!

On the Sunday just passed (the 14th of June) I went to see the Rocky Horror Show live in Melbourne and I loved it so much that I thought I would to a review for you all!

I bought the tickets about 2 months in advance from Ticketmaster and they were $70. Comparatively, the tickets were cheap as they were some of the last ones available for the preview shows. Our seats weren't great, they were around the middle of the dress circle, however, the Comedy Theatre is tiered in a way that ensures everyone has a clear view of the stage so that aspect of it was a-okay.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of my all-time favourite musical films so you can only imagine my excitement leading up to the performance and I was in no way disappointed. I had the biggest grin on my face throughout the entire duration of the show, when I wasn't singing (quietly) along, of course.

I was blown away by the talent of all of the performers, particularly Craig McLachlan who played Frank n Furter. He perfectly portrayed his character in such a way that left the entire theatre in a fit of giggles with almost every word that left his mouth. I have honestly never laughed so hard in all my life than what I did watching Craig prance around on stage in a corset and tights.

All of the song numbers were incredible with some top-notch quality dancing to accompany it. All of the performers had incredible voices, I particularly enjoyed Kristian Lavercombe as Riff-Raff and Stephan Mahy as Brad. The musical highlights, for me, were definitely the Time-Warp (duh), Damn It Janet and Sweet Transvestite.

Bert Newton was an absolute champ, the moment I found out he was going to be playing the part of the narrator I was stoked. To be honest, he could have been better but it's Bert Newton and everyone loves a bit of Bert so all was forgiven. Also the fact that, in the finale song, one of the other performers (I can't remember who, sorry) pulled down Bert's pants to reveal a pair of boxers and tights with suspenders matching to the rest of the performers on stage. This was probably one of the greatest moments in my life I'm not even going to lie.

Can we all please take a moment to appreciate the above photo? Such a legend.
The show went for a duration of 2 hours including a 20 minute interval and it was so brilliant that I never wanted it to end. However, the 1 hour and 40 minutes of performance was a perfect stretch of time and I feel that any longer would have been a slight overkill.

Overall, I think it's clear that I thoroughly enjoyed the performance! The Rocky Horror Show is definitely a stage show that's littered with dirty innuendos so I wouldn't recommend it for young children or anyone who does not enjoy crude humour.

I give the Rocky Horror Show a solid 9.5/10 and it is definitely my favourite musical that I have seen so far, not that I have seen that many but still, it was bloody brilliant.

If you live in Australia and would like to see the Rocky Horror Show for yourself, just head on over to http://rockyhorror.com.au/. Groovy as.

Clothing Haul!

Hey friends!

Let's just say I spend a little too much money. Oops.

About a month ago I decided I was bored with my aesthetic that practically consisted of wearing whatever I had in my wardrobe. So, inevitably, I decided to spice up my life and go shopping. My mum and I did some (ha, a lot) of damage to the ol' credit card but some new clothes were well overdue and hence a clothing haul is necessary.

Let's get into it!

First Stop: Kookai

Tori Top

The quality of this top is amazing, the material is nice and thick so it's very structured and great for layering in the colder months. I love this with high-waisted, black jeans or a skirt with an edgy denim or leather jacket.
Unfortunately it's sold out online, however it may be still available in some Kookai stores.

Willow Vest

Originally I did not like this vest but the minute I tried it on I fell in love with it. The fabric is so lovely and soft and again it's a piece thats great for layering. I love to throw it on over a black crop and high waisted jeans to add a sophisticated flair to the outfit. It's currently on sale so get it while you can! I'm mad because I paid full price for it... You win some you lose some.

Corey Crop Top

This top is an absolute staple in my wardrobe. It's my perfect party top under a jacket with either high waisted jeans or a skirt. The quality is really nice and it comes in a billion different colours. I also purchased this top in black and grey.

Silence Skirt

HOW CUTE IS THIS SKIRT?! It's my new favourite thing in my wardrobe. I love how it's fitted around the waist and bum-bum and then flares out around the bottom. It's so cute but edgy at the same time. It's perfect with a long sleeved crop and chunky ankle boots. Lovin' it.

Slice Skirt

This skirt is perfect for all my fellow curvy chickadees. The gathering around the lower abdomen hides any lumps and bumps that I may have, which is great when going out for dinner because it means I can eat the entire bread basket without having to worry about whether the world is going to see my bloated pot. Bonus. The colour is also really unique, it's a groovy lavender-grey colour and it suits virtually any skin tone.

Lola Long Sleeve Top

The Lola top is a really nice basic black top with a turtle neck which is great for winter layering. The quality of the shirt is really nice and it looks great tucked into the Silence Skirt pictured earlier in the post.

Second Stop: Witchery

Sleeveless Zip Knit

I picked up this sleeveless jumper as its great for layering. I don't know about you guys but I think there is nothing worse than wearing a jacket over a chunky knit and not being able to move freely. This jumper eliminates that from occurring while still being super warm. The quality is really nice and the zip details give it a bit of an edgy flair. I'd pair this with a pair of biker leggings or skinny jeans with a leather jacket.

And that's everything I bought! I hope you guys have enjoyed today's post and maybe saw a few things you may also like to pick up!

P.S Sorry pretty much everything is from Kookai, it's my favourite store at the moment. Peace!

Thursbae 11/06/15

Hey friends!

I'm back! Sorry it's been so long, I've had exams the past two weeks which as been stressful beyond words but now that's over for another 6 or so months I'll hopefully be back into my regular upload schedule!

So without further adieu, this week's Thursbae is Matty Healy of The 1975.

Source: https://41.media.tumblr.com/bff93d9f4dd48bbb744d74cc8bd2ea97/tumblr_nfazb5RFVn1rqfamco1_400.jpg

I'm sure that if you have a social media account you will have seen the absolute shit storm that occurred last week surrounding this fella and his band mates and I don't know about you guys but I was hella confused. But alas, here's what you need to know about the indie rocker himself.

Birthdate: April 8th, 1989
Nationality: British
Occupation: Singer/Songwriter
Known for: Frontman of The 1975

If your wondering why Matty is the dude of the week allow me to educate you, dear.

1. His aesthetic

Source:http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Tumblr+s+Year+In+Review+2014+WXQ6oqM7F73l.jpg

To quote himself, "you look so coo0oooOl".
No but seriously, I'm fairly certain he single handedly brought back the whole 'soft grunge' trend any 90s kid would be familiar with. He's got this mysterious, dark look going on and his hair is what my dreams are made of. It's almost like if you're not "dressed in black from head to toe" (yes, I did it again), you can't be a fan of The 1975. I don't know if you've ever been to one of their concerts before but literally everyone is wearing either black, leather, tartan or denim... sometimes all four. It's like a uniform. Whatever, I'm down with that.

2. He writes the most amazing songs

Source: http://www.straight.com/files/olddays/popup/public/MUS_Concerts_2419.jpg

Literally every song by The 1975 is amazing both lyrically and musically. Their sound is so different to anything else that's out at the moment, it's so unique, experimental and cool. There's no other word to describe it. All of their songs are written by the band and its clear that their success rides on the back of the quality music they produce. Matty's vocals is truly just the icing on the cake.

3. His vocabulary

Source: https://38.media.tumblr.com/818bcf0c7c17885baab4c5467091d701/tumblr_nemu55zXVC1u2kvamo1_500.gif

If you've ever watched Matty doing an interview you'd know that he uses some of the most complex vocabulary I've ever heard. I often find myself pausing interviews to look up some word he's used because I have no idea what the heck he's saying. Smart tip: if you've got an English essay to write, watch a few Matty Healy interviews and you're bound to learn some new words that might help you get in your teacher's good books. For realz.

4. His stage presence

Source: http://38.media.tumblr.com/8403a1f0d1614ec86e45f66c7c54c5e6/tumblr_n771iqWFRC1qb43qno1_500.png

He is so laid-back and chilled on stage and it creates such a good atmosphere. It's not unusual for him to take of his shirt, crack open a bottle of red wine, light a cigarette and just chat to the crowd. He often throws bottles of water out to the mosh pit and tells everyone to move back and stop pushing if he sees a fan being squished against the barrier. Not only that, but his vocals live are incredible. Paired with the talent of Ross, George and Adam, the groovy lighting and the simplistic set, the band's live shows are an experience in themselves.

5. His perceptions on the world

Source: http://adamnoteve.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/The1975_03.jpg

He has the most incredible outlook on the way the world works and the way it should be working. It is the social awareness of people like him who a lot of teenagers look up to is what is going to change the world. He is using his fame as a platform to preach the changes that should be made to this insane world that we live in.
For example;

As you can see, I could go on for days.

So there we have it! If you want to keep tabs on Matty (and the band's new pink aesthetic) you can find him on twitter at @truman_black and instagram at @trumanblack. You can also follow his band, The 1975 on instagram and twitter at @the1975.
